Imperial Personal Assistant Delivers the Gift of Time - -Your Time

A Note from Cheryl

I am sure you have already heard, Christmas is fast approaching! While the holidays will be a time for family and friends, the New Year will bring a new 365 days to reach your goals for a bigger business and greater prosperity. What are your priorities for the coming year? What projects will you work on everyday to get you there?

Welcome to the December 2007 issue.
Thank you for inviting me into your mailbox. Could your friends, or associates benefit from a helping hand? Share this newsletter.

One of the most frequent things I hear from business owners is that they get bogged down in all the administrative tasks required to implement their ideas. Remember the Harvard study which revealed that people who set goals were the ones, 15 years later, who had achieved their goals. You will need multiple things in place to achieve your goals, so make it easy. Decide on 3 specific goals to work on first and then list under each one, the smaller projects you will need to achieve them.

Get those 3 goals out in front of you were you can see them every day. I am a visual person so I love to identify my goals with pictures if I can. Especially the ultimate goals of beautiful trips and homes. You know the type of magazine pictures I mean! Every morning and evening ask yourself What project task have I worked on today to move my business forward towards either of my 3 goals? As funny as it may seem, what your mind focuses on comes into your life.

So keep your pictures out there to remind yourself and you will keep on track and on task. Put your pictures away in a safe place and they will be forgotten, gather dust and never be achieved.
Work at your own pace and remember
                   CELEBRATE YOUR PROGRESS EACH DAY!

You have heard it before. It is important to set limits on the hours you work especially if you are in a home office. Family and friends are important and those relationships need a time investment also. It is no fun to achieve that great trip but turn around to realize you have lost your life and have no one to join you. Collaborate with a support team to maintain the pace and achieve your goals while getting the balance you need. As you are setting out project steps, decide whether you will need flexible administrative support to reach your goals.

We overestimate what we can do in day & under estimate what can be done in a year!

SUCCESS SECRET

"In our family, everybody gets to be happy. Mom does the thing Mom loves which happens to be my job. I*m not going to feel guilty about that."  Some weeks I take the kids to school and then we hang out. And other weeks I travel. But as long as a story is intellectually challenging and meaningful to me, I*m happy to get on a plane and stay up all night to make it happen. Take responsibility for their future, everybody wants the same things for themselves and their families, access to the dream of a better life.

Trend Spotting - Recent Statistics
Lucky Toronto .. Welcome Richard Florida to U of T Rotman School of Management     Previously Professor of Economics at Carnegie Mellon University and a visiting professor at MIT and Harvard University . Have you read his books The Rise of the Creative Class and The Flight of the Creative Class? Very interesting work.
Another great mind at this school is Don Tapscott writer of Wikinomics, another great book.

Richard Florida  contribution to the Globe and Mail, Saturday Focus Section.

In fact, there is so much going on here that the city and its people are unaware of the scope and power of Toronto. What has happened is that the mega-city has become the nerve centre of one of the world's greatest mega- regions, a trans-border economic powerhouse that stretches from Buffalo to Quebec City. It*s important to recognize this, because mega-regions have replaced the nation state as the economic drivers of the global economy.

Richard Florida is a professor at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management and Academic Director of the Martin Prosperity Institute at the Rotman School. He is also the founder of The Creative Class Group (creativeclass.com) in Washington, D.C., which develops strategies for business, government and community competitiveness, and author of the bestselling books The Rise of the Creative Class and The Flight of the Creative Class.

Times are changing - are you keeping up?

Got some time over the holidays?  Do you know what the words 'massclusivity', slivercasting and 'mass customization' mean? Here*s a hint, in Octobers newsletter I mentioned the book The Long Tail by Chris Anderson, Editor of Wired magazine. This book is a must read to understand the changes that are taking place especially with the impact of the internet, the effects on marketing and the coming HUGE potential of niche marketing.

A great place to start is checking out the new Canadian social networking site Capazoo, Social Life, Network and Entertainment.  Click here for my profile

Social networking sites Myspace and Facebook daily register visitors in the millions to find out more about social networking, do not miss an excerpt below from the Globe & Mail article, Avatars with Business Cards. It is about virtual world, Second Life.

Virtual worlds may seem frivolous but they offer real-life businesses new ways to link up with staff and customers.  The author Mathew Ingram spoke about new uses that corporations are making for these sites.  Not only are these sites becoming hot topics at business and technology conferences due partly to the recent interest of Microsoft in Facebook at a price of several billions, but whether virtual world sites such as Second Life  can be useful to business and/or be used as marketing tools. Are these sites a waste of time or is there value here?

If you want to be ready for that future, you should probably be experimenting with it now. In an interview with Fortune magazine, Sam Palmisano, the CEO of IBM (which has made a significant investment of both money and time in Second Life, with dozens of "islands" on the site and virtual conference calls with staff, among other things) said that "the 3-D Internet may at first appear to be eye candy," but advised companies not to "get hung up on how frivolous some of its initial uses may seem." He called virtual worlds the "next phase of the Internet's evolution" and said they may eventually come to have the "same level of impact" as the development of the graphical Web.

One use for virtual worlds that some companies have experimented with is a type of instant messaging or online conference call to connect employees in remote locations. Some employers are conducting virtual job interviews in Second Life, TMP Worldwide recently hosted a "job fair" in Second Life, with companies including Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, Verizon and Sodexho.

Second Life and other similar sites also provide an opportunity to reach new customers in different ways. Dutch bank ABN Amro opened a virtual European branch office six months ago and then created a "young professional" island, hoping to attract customers between the ages of 25 and 35 so the bank could offer them services such as training for job interviews or help in buying a first house. Another Dutch bank, ING, combined its sponsorship of the real-world Renault F1 team with Second Life by having Grand Prix driver Mikka Hakkinen*s avatar give an interactive conference on the Renault F1 site in Second Life.

Although still relatively small, the number of people using Second Life and similar virtual worlds continues to grow, and new ones are constantly being launched, including Canadian-based sites such as Webkinz and Club Penguin (recently acquired by Disney for $350 million), which appeal to younger users.

Venture capitalist Susan Wu says other successful virtual worlds include Habbo Hotel, which has about 75 million registered users and $60 million in revenue, and Gaia Online, which has 50,000 person-to-person sales and more than one million message board posts every day.

For many younger consumers, online virtual worlds are neither strange or unusual. Reaching these consumers could be a real benefit for companies, and experimenting with games such as Second Life costs very little when compared with traditional marketing and advertising. In other words, why not?

In The Long Tail by Chris Anderson, speaks about niche marketing and our transition from hit marketing to niche marketing and how consumers are becoming scattered to the winds and marketing is scrambling to keep up.

Did you know that Hollywood box office sales fell 7 percent in 2005? Magazine newsstand sales are at their lowest level since statistics have been kept, a period of more than 30 years. Today the top-rated TV show, CSI is watched by just 15 percent of TV households. That figure wouldn't have put it in the top ten in the 70*s.

The Legend of Rudolph

Sociologists say "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer" is the only new addition to the folklore of Santa Claus in the 20th century!

In 1939, Robert May an advertising copywriter for the Montgomery Ward department store in Chicago, sought something novel for the store*s Santa to hand out to children. may conceived the idea of a shiny nosed reindeer to be Santa*s helper. an artist friend, Denver Gillen, spent hours at a local zoo, creating whimsical sketches of reindeer and may considered many names finally settling on Rudolph, the preference of his four year old daughter. That Christmas, 2.4 million copies of the "Rudolph" booklet were handed out across the country and "Rudolph" was reprinted sporadically until 1947.

That year, a friend of May*s, Johnny Marks, decided to put the poem to music and have the song recorded. many professional singers declined the opportunity, but in 1949, Gene Autry consented and the recording rocketed to the top of the Hit Parade.

since then, three hundred different recordings have been made with more than eighty million records sold. The original Gene Autry version is second only to Bing Crosby*s White Christmas as the best selling record of all time.
