Time Saving Tips and Tricks -

 

Do you want more balance in your life, with time for family and friends?

3 things you will not have to worry about

  • Do you have little repairs around the house that need doing?  A dripping faucet or a light switch that would be so much nicer as a dimmer?  Not all of us were born handy even though we sometimes feel the expectation to fulfill all the roles attributed to our gender! Why not make a list of all these little things that are haunting your weekends and vacation days. Call in a handyman to do a morning's work and get those nagging details done once and for all and off your list!

  • Learn to say NO rather than YES.  Ever run out of time or energy and put things off till LATER? Procrastination is not a good replacement for saying no. Rather than saying yes to new tasks and acquiring the additional stress of too many things in your day, why not try; asking for time to think about it; ask for the expected time frame within which the task needs to be completed. Let the person requesting the task be done, know that you'll have to look in your day timer and see if you can fit the task into your schedule within the time frame because you want to do a good job and deliver on time.  People will respect your decision and appreciate knowing that their task will be completed within the time if you do say YES.

  • When you do say yes, try breaking the task down into smaller parts that can fit into the small time frames you have available during your day.  Do you have 15 or 20 minutes in the morning when you first get up? Could you gather together the various parts necessary to do the task? 

  • We all have small parcels of time scattered through the day that are wasted.  For example, waiting in the drive through line, waiting while someone runs in to pick something up or the time spent waiting for a doctor's appointment . Can you carry some of the task with you so you can read about the task and start planning during these small time frames?

2 bright ideas

  • Cut a square of chicken wire and bend it over the top of your flower vase. Put your flowers into the vase through the squares made by the wire.  The flowers in your arrangement will stand up rather than fall over.

  • Ever wonder why short tasks seem to take more time when you have all day to do it? One thing I've noticed, I wander off and start doing related tasks. When I set a time limit on a task, it helps keep me focused.  I finish the task and have time to do something else on the top of my priority list rather than wandering off to a task of lower priority.

Tech Tips for Your Home Office

So now you are in your Home Office without the support of the corporate IT tech down the hall ... what are you going to do ... no do not call Ghost Busters ....  read on for tips to keep your home office running smoothly!

I know .. but you really should Back Up Those Precious Files.  Below are a couple of simple ways to protect your data. Data loss is very frustrating, can be costly and is easily avoided with one good habit. Files are the most critical part of your computer and the only part that can not be replaced. What would you do if something happened to your files because of a virus or through unknown causes!?

  • save files onto a disk or CD every month. Or once a week if you have business files. 

  • another easy method is transferring/storing files via a USB Flash Drive.  Perhaps not the best method, and limited by drive sizes, but simple.

  • or transfer your files to an external hard drive. Some drives feature a one button back up option right on the case.

Make a regular reminder appointment on your calendar and commit the time to backing up your data.

Tip of the Month - Eliminate Deadly Static - wipe down the casing with a cloth sprayed with fabric softener.

This very worthwhile cause provides supportive mentoring programs for youth considered to be at risk. The Dream Academy puts a special emphasis on children with an incarcerated parent because studies show that these children are 6 times more likely to end up in prison themselves.  Because many disadvantaged communities have little or no access to computers and the online world.  The academy has made the development of computer skills and access to the internet central elements of their campaign.  

In November 2005, our association presented a cheque to the academy for $100,00.00. We know our sponsorship is not only helping to provide our most vulnerable kids with valuable academic and social skills, we are providing them with hope for a better future.  Without hope we are no one with no where to go.  Imperial Personal Assistant and all our associates are proud to help such a worthwhile cause.
