Recent Statistics

Many studies on work-life issues, have observed the increase of dual income families where both parents work outside the home. Working professionals have all experienced the reality of less staff in the office, longer hours and more demanding, hectic jobs.

Today, one in four professionals regularly works on the weekend, and the amount of time spent at work has increased to 91 hours a week. So its not surprising that most people are experiencing a time famine and study results reflect this.

67% not enough time with their kids
63% not enough time with their spouse or partner
55% not enough time for self

Technologies voicemail, email and beepers are blurring the lines between working hours and off hours. 46% report that they are regularly contacted about their job outside of work hours.

 

While boomers remain work centric, they are looking for work life balance and starting to look for ways to get their time back. Everyone needs to work smarter.

One of the keys to achieving this balance and using your time effectively is getting very organized. Put the tasks you need to do into a system so they almost take care of themselves!

For example; build templates with predetermined text for recurring letters and emails. Such as "Thank you for contacting me, here is the info you asked about" and insert the requested brochure or information with the letter or attached to the email.

Balancing Act

While it is great to have a schedule it is also important to have balance.

Make sure you sit down to meals and think about eating slower. Eat meals with lots of nutrients and if you miss meals inquire about taking a nutritional supplement  so your mind is alert and you can make the best use of your time. As things get busy in the weeks ahead, make sure to schedule in downtime to just crash on weekends. Sleep in, slow down considerably and recharge.

Remember you will be happier and have less stress with 30 min of exercise, cardio or weight training, 5 times a week to contribute to your well being.  Inquire about our Sports Nutrition program. Keep Up and Get Ahead

Keep Records For This Christmas And Make A Follow-Up File For Next Year 

Start with your recipients name listed in a column on the left and write your gift or idea
for the person on the right. If needed, make separate lists for family, friends and corporate gift giving. If you do not have a gift idea for each name at the beginning, dont panic. Schedule in time to browse for gift ideas and start asking others for ideas. Fill in the blanks as you decide in the weeks ahead.  

Set a deadline when all gifts are decided and the wrapping begins.
This will help those of us who put things off. You do not want to be caught scrambling at the end with names and no gift wrapped.
I have often heard it said that a goal without a date is just a wish.

If you come up with 2 ideas for one person, thats great, take this idea one step further. Make a duplicate list to be used for next year and write the idea across from their name on that list. Store this list in a file folder or large envelope marked Holidays, for follow up next year. You will be ahead of the game next November! Make a note in next years daytimer to look at this file.

If you really want to get organized, make file folders marked with other activities such as holiday preparations. File other ideas here and you can review it before next Christmas.

The flip side of this activity is making a list and recording what you receive, so you can thank the sender. You will avoid being embarrassed having to thank people for their beautiful gift when you have no idea what it was that you received, if anything.

Dont leave things until the last minute, start preparing your gifts now.
